"Broken"

Do you ever feel like a movie was made specifically for you to see? A movie where when you watch the main character, you feel like you are looking at your own reflection in the mirror? It's uncanny. I experienced this firsthand on Sunday afternoon. I was just wandering around my neighborhood, strolling along with nothing in particular in mind, as I am wont to do at times. I was walking near the movie theater in the area and thought I'd see what was playing. As I approached the counter with the movie listings, this older man immediately came up to me and said "Are you looking for a good movie to watch? I just watched 'Broken English' and it was excellent." I told him I keep hearing about that movie off and on and was wondering if it would be good. I looked at the time. The next showing was in 20 minutes....so I bought the ticket. Or tried to anyway. This girl I used to work with at the bookstore now works at the movie theater ticket counter. I wasn't sure if she remembered me, but was friendly towards her nonetheless. She filled out a piece of paper, which she pushed towards me. She said I wouldn't have to pay for the movie if I signed my name on the sheet of paper she filled out. She just gave me a free movie. Sweet!

I really had no idea what the movie would be about, other than I knew Parker Posey was in it and that she has romantic troubles. As the movie progressed, I was astounded by the similarities I saw between myself and her character, Nora. In a nutshell, she seems to have bad luck with guys....something I immediately identified with. Whether she finds out the guy she just had a seemingly good date with ends up having a girlfriend or another guy who isn't yet over his ex-girlfriend (who even apologetically tells her "You're so nice..."....yup, I've been there too!), I could relate. Interestingly though, she starts to question why she's attracting guys who are "unavailable" in one form or another. I liked this movie because it helped give me insight into my own love life in a refreshingly, unconventional and non-cliched kind of way.

Good! :) But just know, I'm not TOTALLY like the character in the movie (as in, I'm not as neurotic and fearful as she is...only on a lesser degree...lol).
